Mays Kitchen
Description
The charcoal grill out front earns its smoke with whole fish, prawns and chicken, all arriving with baked potato and coleslaw. Seafood gets a spicy sauce that has enough bite to stop the potato becoming a diplomatic incident.
Thai cooking is the stronger lane here, especially duck massaman, yellow curry powder seafood stir-fry, pineapple fried rice and fried pork ribs. Panko sea bass and Korean chicken also land well, so a mixed table can wander across the menu without ending up in culinary custody.
Portions are large, prices stay low, and the open kitchen keeps the whole operation visible. Vegetarian curries can be made with tofu and vegetables, which gives non-meat eaters more to do than inspect the side dishes.
Dinner gets busy fast, particularly around the grill, and food takes time once the tables fill. Lunch is the quieter play; settle in then and give the specials board a proper look, especially when duck massaman appears.
