Lanta Mermaid Beachfront Resort
Description
Sunset drinks land about ten steps from the Andaman here, with a beach bar, pool table and a broad green garden behind it. The beach chairs are useful for a late-afternoon perch; bring your own shade strategy, because umbrellas are not part of the furniture.
Rooms are roomy for this stretch of coast, with patios, drying racks, fridges and proper storage. Air conditioning takes time to cool the space, and the room stock is mixed: some bungalows feel fresh, others show their age. The shower pressure can be more philosophical than forceful.
The beachfront restaurant is the social centre, covering breakfast, Thai dishes, cocktails and an easy dinner without leaving the sand. NJ is the one to find behind the bar for cocktails. The pool table has earned its “table of horrors” nickname, which is less a warning than a challenge.
Lanta Mermaid sits close to shops, a 7-Eleven and the night market, so it suits a low-effort beach stay with dinner and supplies nearby. Mosquitoes gather around the breakfast patio after dark, and the road side carries passing traffic, but the sea-facing garden remains the better place to spend the evening.
