Description

Pad Thai with prawns, lemon-garlic prawns and a strawberry lassi are the sensible reasons to stop at Lanta Fa Rung. The less sensible reason is ending up in a hammock with a book and deciding the afternoon has no further obligations.

This is Klong Khong beach dining with sand underfoot, Andaman Sea in front, and properly comfortable sun loungers along the shore. Breakfast is strong too, especially for a slow start before claiming a chair by the water. The piña colada belongs in the sunset plan.

Portions are generous, the Thai food has flavour, and the setting rewards anyone prepared to linger. Sit on the terrace for shade and music, or take a beach table for dinner as the light drops.

Meals can take time to arrive, so do not arrive ravenous after a long scooter ride. The best seats sit nearest the loungers, where the surf supplies the soundtrack without charging for it.
