Lanta Animal Welfare
Description
The Kitty Cafe and a proper behind-the-scenes shelter tour sit under the same roof, which gives an afternoon more substance than another beach bar. Cats roam the cafe area, while the tour heads through treatment spaces, recovery areas and the daily machinery of caring for Koh Lanta’s dogs and cats.
The English-language tour takes around an hour and covers sterilisation work, mobile clinics, rescue, treatment and international adoption. Expect veterinary smells, heat and real stories, not a cuddle-farm fantasy with a gift shop attached (the animals have better things to do).
The centre’s work has shaped island life for decades, with large-scale sterilisation and rehoming at its core. Dogs have individual feeding plans and regular walks; the kitchen boards alone reveal how much detail goes into each animal’s day.
Arrive early for time with the cats before the tour, then linger in the cafe or shop afterwards. Donations, sponsorships, volunteering and adoption all feed directly into the practical work happening behind the gates.
Highlights
- Kitty Cafe gives you time with resident cats before or after a tour.
- Tours include the clinic and recovery areas, not just animal meet-and-greets.
- Sponsorship, volunteering and international adoption are available.
- This is not a petting zoo; animal contact is not the focus of the visit.
