L. Maladee Restaurant
Description
Red snapper arrives in two proper flavours here: curry on one side, garlic and pepper on the other. That split preparation is the reason to make the trip out to L. Maladee, especially with fried rice alongside and a few king prawns in pepper sauce.
Southern Thai cooking has more punch than the tourist-safe standard. Tom yum, tom kha gai, Massaman curry and coconut curry under fish all bring plenty of aroma, heat and coconut richness. Sweet and sour chicken also has a loyal following, which is a surprisingly serious achievement for a dish often treated as orange furniture.
The restaurant sits close to the sea, built around an old fishing boat, weathered planks and stonework. It feels personal, with cats wandering about and a soundtrack that keeps dinner from becoming an audition for a silent retreat.
Seafood is the smart spend: whole fish, medium prawns, crab and lobster are on the menu, but the red snapper and pepper prawns are the sharper choices. Fried banana with pineapple finishes things neatly, while the mixed fruit shake stays fruit-forward.
