Krakus Zapiekanka
Description
A long, toasted baguette buried under mushroom paste, onions, melted cheese and chives is the entire point at Krakus. The zapiekanka arrives crisp at the edges, properly gooey through the middle, and substantial enough to count as lunch after training.
This is Polish street food, not a round pizza wearing a false moustache. One vegetarian zapiekanka fills the menu’s starring role, and it does not need a supporting cast. The mushroom filling has real depth, the bread is baked fresh, and the cheese stretches with pleasing lack of restraint.
Fresh carrot juice and orange juice belong alongside it, especially after a Muay Thai session next door. Coffee is worth having too, which is handy because a boxing gym without caffeine is just a very sweaty misunderstanding.
The setup is modest and practical, right by the gym on the main road. Krakus suits anyone bored of another generic pizza slice and ready for Krakow’s answer to a toasted cheese missile.
