Fresh pineapple fried rice gets made with an actual pineapple, not a tin and a prayer. Kitchen Klong Dao is a small Thai restaurant near Klong Dao Beach that puts its effort into flavour, speed and portions that do not require a second mortgage.
The chicken dishes land particularly well, and the spring rolls arrive crisp and properly filled. Tom yum seafood has the sharp, hot, sour hit it should, while green curry, grilled fish and fishcakes cover the familiar Thai-food territory without turning dinner into a menu-reading endurance test.
Smoothies are fresh, cold and worth ordering in their own right. Dessert pancakes are another strong finish, especially after papaya salad and grilled fish have dealt with the serious business.
The room is clean, newly fitted out and more pleasant than its modest roadside footprint suggests. It is for hungry beachgoers, budget-minded Thai-food eaters and anyone who values a fast plate of food over theatrical furniture.
