Description
Barracuda straight from the water and squid stir-fried in black ink are the reasons to stop at Kangbaan-Kohpor, right beside Koh Por pier. The kitchen keeps things local, affordable and properly seafood-led, with chicken Penang curry and sweet-and-sour shrimp covering the land-based contingent.
The tables sit over the water on a timber platform, with gaps in the boards showing the sea below. Bamboo chairs, the call to prayer drifting across the channel, and Koh Lanta on the horizon give lunch more character than most island ferry stops manage (the floor has opinions, but holds up).
Mango sticky rice deserves its own detour. Fresh mango comes with coconut cream made to order, and it lands lighter and fresher than the usual sugar-brick finale.
Koh Por is a short boat hop from Lanta Old Town, and Kangbaan is the sensible landing point for a meal before or after exploring the pier and beach. Sit near the outer edge for the channel view and order seafood.
