Jimmy's Fried Chicken
Description
Panang curry chicken and the chicken burger are the two reasons Jimmy’s keeps pulling diners back to the main road. The burger is a big, properly filled thing, while the fried chicken arrives as hefty fresh strips with chips that don’t feel like an afterthought.
Thai food is not filler here. The Massaman curry has the sweet-spiced depth it needs, fried morning glory brings plenty of garlic and bite, and chilli paste chicken has enough heat to justify a cold shake. Add rice to any curry because leaving that sauce behind would be a small personal failure.
The menu runs from papaya salad and basil mince to shrimp tempura, banana pancakes and mango sticky rice. Coconut smoothies, coconut coffee and the ginger-carrot-orange drink are worth ordering even if lunch has already become structurally unsound.
It is a simple roadside family restaurant, with plastic chairs, quick meals and no theatrical beach décor. Kids have toys and a high chair, and the small ginger cat often claims the best patch of floor near the tables.
