Description
Warm mango crumble arrives straight from the oven with a scoop of coconut ice cream, and it has become Old Town’s most sensible reason to abandon all dietary intentions. The crumble is buttery, tart with mango, and properly hot; the coconut ice cream is the right cool counterweight.
Breakfast has more backbone than the tiny menu suggests. Homemade sourdough turns up in a serious tuna sandwich and avocado with roasted tomato, while bagels, bacon-and-egg plates, salads, iced lattes and Thai tea cover the rest of the morning without wandering into a menu the size of a phone book.
The vegan banana bread and fresh chocolate-chip cookies deserve a takeaway slot in the day bag. Gluten-free bread is available too, which is useful on an island where “gluten-free” can sometimes mean removing the bread and wishing you luck.
Grandma’s House sits in Lanta Old Town, with calm music, a small number of tables and a wall worth reading before dessert lands. The mystery tasting menu follows the market’s fresh produce, and the mango crumble can disappear before lunch has finished pretending to be a concept.
