Description

Fish sauce gelato is the sensible starting point at Gramocone. It lands closer to a deep, salted vanilla than the culinary prank its name suggests, and it has become Old Town’s most convincing frozen argument.

The cabinet changes with small-batch flavours made from local ingredients: yuzu yoghurt, coconut pandan, miso chocolate, lime sorbet and mixed fruit cream have all had their moment. Vegan sorbets are properly part of the menu, not a consolation prize in a sad little tub. The pineapple affogato deserves a detour, especially with an espresso made from Krabi beans.

Behind the front counter, vinyl moves from cumbia and blues to house music, while the back seating looks out over Old Town’s water. It feels part gelateria, part record room, part T-shirt workshop, with owner-designed screen prints hanging around for anyone who wants a souvenir less tragic than a fridge magnet.

Natural wine is available for a late-afternoon seat out back, though gelato remains the point. Gramocone belongs on an Old Town wander for Foodies, coffee drinkers and anyone willing to let fish sauce prove it has range.
