Gina Cafe And Restaurant
Description
The veggie massaman arrives thick with cinnamon, cloves, mixed vegetables and a fistful of crispy onions – the sort of curry that ruins several weaker curries later in the week. The duck version is equally worth ordering, and the heat stays mild enough to let the spice paste do its job.
Breakfast has more ambition than the standard eggs-and-regret lineup. Mushroom and avocado toast comes on properly good bread, while the Thai tea with strawberries and the fresh smoothies look faintly overqualified for a roadside café. Garlic fried rice, yellow noodles and noodle soup cover the less photogenic but very necessary end of the menu.
Gina handles the awkward question of what to eat when one table wants pad krapao and another wants tacos. Pad Thai, morning glory, hot-pan prawns, bruschetta and beef tacos all fit on the same sprawling menu without turning dinner into a culinary hostage negotiation.
The room is airy, cooled by fans, and set up for a long breakfast or an unhurried evening drink. Food arrives dressed with flowers, which is charming, and the prices stay firmly in the inexpensive bracket around Malee Beach.
