Drunken Sailors
Description
The vegan crispy pork with kale is the sort of dish that makes carnivores briefly question their career choices. Drunken Sailors in Kantiang Bay cooks far beyond the usual beach-road menu, with sharp Thai flavours, homemade noodles, proper burgers and a plant-based section that isn’t an afterthought.
Pad kra pao, fried egg salad, tofu in tamarind sauce and the shrimp-and-squid salad are the serious end of the menu. Breakfast pulls its weight too: açaà bowls, pancakes, strong coffee and chocolate shakes suit a long, unhurried morning better than a grab-and-go mission.
The room is all beanbags, hammocks, bare feet and slow afternoons, with craft beer, Thai gin and their own IPA keeping dinner from becoming overly sensible. Rain doesn’t shut the place down, which matters in Kantiang Bay because tropical downpours have terrible timing.
Foodies and vegetarians should make this a repeat stop, not a one-meal experiment. The fish burger and cheeseburger are unusually good for a place whose Thai cooking has every right to steal the attention.
