Description
Papaya salad here arrives properly fiery, crunchy and sharp – not the timid tourist version with a chilli waving from across the room. The green curry is packed with vegetables, the garlic-and-pepper tofu has bite, and the vegan tom yum brings enough tofu and fresh veg to count as lunch.
A used bookshop fills the street-front room, then the place opens onto dark timber decking above the water in Saladan. Grab a back table, look over the river, and accept that a cat may inspect your footwear. The décor is tin, baskets, plants and books, which sounds like a house clearance until you see it.
Falafel with fresh pita is the strongest non-Thai order, while Penang curry, basil chicken and shrimp tom kha cover the rest of the menu without fuss. Coffee is ground on site, and the brownie deserves a look if the boat has left and you suddenly have time to spare.
Catfish is particularly good for plant-based eaters stuck near Saladan Pier, where vegan food can otherwise become a heroic search for plain rice. Breakfast also has real range, from banana pancakes to a full continental plate, and the water-side tables beat eating beside the ferry traffic.
