Bun Noodle
Description
Khao soi is the whole point here: a deep northern-style curry broth, springy noodles, tender slow-cooked beef or chicken, and a small army of herbs, pickles and crunchy chilli waiting to be deployed. The beef version has proper soft chunks, not the sort of beef that requires a dental plan.
The table condiments matter. Add the fried chilli and crispy onion gradually, then work through the fresh vegetables and pickles on the side. Coconut soup, green curry and pad Thai hold their own, while tofu can be swapped into panang curry and khao soi for a serious meat-free lunch.
Everything arrives looking far more considered than its inexpensive price suggests. Plates come piled high, the outdoor seating sits among plants and a fine mist, and small birds dart through the greenery with more confidence than most tourists on a scooter.
Bun Noodle belongs on the lunch-and-early-dinner circuit around Koh Lanta, especially for anyone bored of beach-road menus charging extra for a view. The northern Thai cooking is the draw, and the khao soi alone justifies a detour.
