Baan Phutawan Lanta
Description
Mango-passionfruit smoothies, iced lattes and a river-and-mountain view from high above the road are the point of Baan Phutawan Lanta. The banana caramel waffle is worth sharing, and the cats have claimed the terrace with the confidence of tiny landlords.
The cafe sits at the top of a brutally steep dirt track above the island’s busier strip. Park at the main road and call the number on the sign for the short 4×4 lift up; standard motorbikes do not belong on this climb, unless you enjoy converting holidays into recovery time.
Rooms are clean, quiet and air-conditioned, with comfortable beds and laundry available on site. It is a strong base for couples or solo travellers who want hillside calm, sunrise views and a quick scooter ride back to the beach bars.
Food is fresh and simple, with coffee, waffles and smoothies carrying more weight than a long lunch menu. Stay for the lookout, especially early morning, when the valley opens below the terrace and Koh Lanta briefly remembers it has hills.
