Description
Massaman curry, papaya salad and a cold smoothie taste better with Ao Nui’s little crescent bay directly in front of you. The beach bar and small restaurant sit close to the sand, with loungers, shade near the rocks and massage mats by the water.
Snorkelling along the rocky edges turns up schools of fish and the occasional large jellyfish. The centre of the bay is for floating, reading and doing very little with uncommon commitment. Sunset lands neatly between the headlands, which feels almost suspiciously well arranged.
Monkeys patrol the shaded rock side and will go straight for food, bags and anything left loose. Keep belongings zipped, stay alert on the path, and don’t feed them; they have enough confidence already.
Ao Nui suits beach days that need a curry break and no soundtrack beyond waves. Park on the roadside and walk downhill to the cove, because there is no beach parking and the return climb is steep.
