A La Carte
Description
Massaman chicken curry, grilled catfish and mango sticky rice are the three things to take seriously here. The curry is deep, nutty and properly rich, while the catfish comes smoky from the grill with enough char to justify the smoke drifting across the road.
The menu stays with Thai standards – noodle soup, pad thai, papaya salad, sukiyaki, glass noodles and stir-fried garlic and pepper – then executes them with far more care than the plain roadside setting suggests. Papaya salad has proper bite, and the red curry stir-fried chicken deserves attention too. The barbecue handles chicken, fish and wings all day, overseen by the family grill station with the focus of a man who has seen what happens to undercooked chicken.
Vegetarian meals are easy to arrange with tofu, including pad thai, though fish sauce and oyster sauce remain part of the kitchen. Portions are generous, prices stay low, and the cold beer helps after a hot scooter ride.
A La Carte shares space with Otto Lanta GZ Tour & Travel, so island trips and onward plans can be sorted over lunch. Cats nap around the place with the serene confidence of creatures who have already eaten the mango sticky rice.
