Kin Roi
Description
Pad Thai arrives with chewy noodles, crisp tofu, egg and properly cooked shrimp, all from a modest roadside shed in Old Town. Kin Roi does the everyday Thai staples better than the polished waterfront places charging double for a prettier chair.
Pad krapao brings proper heat and fragrant basil, while pad see ew lands dark, savoury and satisfyingly smoky. The garlic-fried chicken stays juicy, and the stir-fried morning glory has enough garlic to make a vampire revise its travel plans.
The coconut chicken curry and massaman are worth leaving the noodle lane for, especially with rice. Tom yam has a sharp, warming broth.
Portions are generous, prices are cheap, and dishes are cooked fresh beside the road. Plastic chairs, a simple roof and traffic noise are part of the deal; this is lunch for hungry riders, budget travellers and anyone who rates flavour above Instagram furniture. The fried rice with cashew is the sleeper pick, loaded enough to count as dinner after a long scooter loop.
