Description
The paved lane from the pier cuts through a small fishing island with forest, stilted homes and almost no reason to hurry. Ko Por sits just off Lanta Old Town, close enough for a short boat crossing and far enough to lose the bar soundtrack.
Walking is the point here. Follow the lane to the far side, poke around the shoreline, then stop at one of the small local eateries for a simple Thai meal. Accommodation is basic and low-key, including treehouse-style stays, with evening generator power.
The beach by the pier is the easiest place to sit, watch longtails come and go, and catch the sunset. Swimming is not Ko Por’s party trick: much of the shore is shell-strewn, and the water can be murky. Bring shoes for the beach; bare feet meet an alarming amount of sharp marine paperwork.
Ko Por rewards walkers, quiet-day trippers and anyone happy with a fishing-island pace. Leave the beach-club expectations on Lanta, then take the path past the pier until the island runs out.
