Khlong Chak Bat Cave
Description
Tiny bats dot the ceiling at Khlong Chak Bat Cave, a short detour on the jungle trail to Khlong Chak Waterfall. The cave is small, cool and worth ten minutes, with a huge tree rooting over the entrance and enough spiders to keep arachnophobes alert.
The trail follows the river through proper southern jungle, with monkeys and insects providing the occasional free sideshow. Stick close to the water and the route stays clear without needing a guide. Good shoes matter: the ground gets wet, uneven and muddy, while the cave’s far exit narrows into an on-all-fours crawl.
Treat the waterfall as a jungle walk with a possible wet finish. In dry season it shrinks to a trickle, so don’t arrive expecting a roaring set piece with its own soundtrack. The forest is the better bit, which is fortunate because forests are less seasonal than waterfalls.
Families with confident older kids can manage the main path, but the crawl-through exit is not for small children or anyone who dislikes enclosed spaces. Bring water, insect repellent and footwear you can get wet; the cave sits close enough to the trail that it costs little time to investigate.
