Viewpoint On The Bay
Description
Lanta Old Town, the southeast coast and a proper sweep of island hills sit below this bamboo-built hilltop perch. Sunrise is the headline, with roosters carrying up from the valley and enough quiet to make the early alarm feel less like a personal failure.
The approach is half the outing. Ignore the misleading map pin and enter from the west side, near Darussalam Mosque, following the handmade View/Viewpoint signs up the dirt track. Park at the base and walk the final steep stretch; it takes about ten minutes and saves your scooter from attempting a career change.
At the top, there are chairs, cold drinks, coconuts and coffee when the small cafe is operating. Camping structures and festival space give the place a slightly improvised, bamboo-and-hillside character.
Go for dawn, bring water, and leave enough daylight for the descent. The eastern approach goes nowhere useful; the western track is the route that actually gets you to the view.
