Description
The Phuket-to-Koh Lanta run cuts a long ferry day down to roughly an hour and a quarter, provided the Andaman Sea isn’t auditioning for a disaster film. Bundhaya’s fast boats link Phuket, Ao Nang, Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Koh Mook and Koh Lipe, with some routes continuing as through tickets across several islands.
Coloured destination stickers and luggage tags keep the pier scramble intelligible. Watch the colour, follow the correct gate, and keep small valuables out of backpack side pockets; larger bags travel at the front or in the cabin depending on the boat.
Seats are tightly packed, with little legroom for tall bodies, and boarding can mean stepping across another boat. That makes this a poor choice for limited mobility or anyone expecting a floating lounge with room to stretch out.
Calm-season crossings are quick and pleasantly uneventful. Rough water turns every speedboat into a more athletic proposition, so take motion-sickness tablets before departure and keep waterproof layers handy for exposed seating. Koh Lanta’s pier can look like several island departures have been poured into one bucket, but the sticker system gives the chaos a useful colour code.
