Dirtride Lanta
Description
Honda CRF250Ls, rubber-tree tracks and long runs across empty sand are the point at Dirtride Lanta. Shade takes riders through Lanta Noi and Lanta Yai on routes a scooter will never find: gravel lanes, muddy ruts, single track, marshy sections and village backroads.
The terrain changes fast, which is why it stays interesting. One minute is deep sand and beach throttle practice; the next is a steep climb through trees with buffalo watching from a safe distance, presumably judging your clutch control.
Full riding kit is provided, including boots, trousers, jersey, pads, gloves, helmet, goggles and balaclava. Bring socks. Shade starts with a practice session and reads ability quickly, then builds the route from there.
Confident scooter riders and anyone familiar with a manual gearbox can get plenty from it, even on a first dirt-bike ride. Experienced off-road riders get the tougher lines and more room to open the bike up. The ride finishes with beef noodle soup at Shade’s family restaurant, which tastes particularly effective after several hours of sand in places sand should not be.
