Description

The stout sour is the pint to chase at Devy Ale Cafe, brewed on Koh Lanta and far more interesting than another cold Chang at sunset. The IPA holds its own too, with a proper tap list for anyone who knows their hops from their decorative fruit.

Right on Klong Khong Beach, Devy is built for the long stretch between late afternoon and nightfall. Sink into a beanbag, watch the Andaman Sea turn the usual improbable colours, then stay for live music that leaves room for conversation. The big tree and beach swing have become part bar furniture, part photo stop.

There is a pool table, table tennis and a serious stack of board games, so solo drinkers and groups both have something to do besides studying their phones. Game night brings a sociable crowd, while the music nights feel more like a beach gathering than a stage show with a captive audience.

Food is solid alongside the beer, and the kitchen smell hangs around the bar seating. Craft pints cost more than the standard Thai lagers, as they should when somebody has actually bothered to brew them.
