Description
Roasted white snapper with garlic and ginger is the order at Fisherman’s Cottage, followed closely by morning glory and whatever Kun is cooking that day. The Thai food has proper depth, and vegan versions are handled with more imagination than the usual sad tofu substitution.
Tables sit above the sand on Klong Khong Beach, tucked among trees, hammocks and colourful crochet details. Mojitos and margaritas arrive beside the sunset, while the beach shower and swings remove any remaining excuse to put shoes back on.
The bungalows are simple, comfortable and close to the water. “Shark,” the front cottage, has the strongest beach view; several rooms have private outdoor bathrooms, which sound rustic until you try one and begin questioning indoor plumbing.
Stay here for a low-key beach base with food worth leaving the hammock for. Klong Khong’s bars and restaurants sit along the same stretch, and a motorbike opens up the rest of the island without turning the place into a transport project.
