Chez Bee
Description
Som tam arrives loaded with crushed peanuts, the way Isaan food should, and Chez Bee doesn’t hold back on the chilli either. The papaya salad, tom yum and green curry have proper punch, while the massaman runs sweeter and richer with chicken.
Noodles are the other reason to keep this Khlong Khong spot in rotation. Pad Thai, pad see ew with shrimp and yellow fried noodles all land with generous portions and a full condiment tray of dried chilli and peanuts. Start adjusting at your own risk – the table has more ways to alter lunch than most small governments.
Vegetarian food gets real choice here, not a lonely fried-rice exile. Tofu Pad Thai, tofu yellow noodles and much of the Thai menu can be made vegan, so mixed groups can eat without negotiating a treaty.
The room is simple and the food is cheap enough for repeat visits. Go late for a filling Thai dinner, especially if beach-road prices have started behaving like they own a yacht. The deep-fried “spicy test” fish is built for two and deserves a table with cold drinks.
