Auntie Mae's Bakery & Coffee
Description
Banoffee pie, coconut cake and a dark chocolate mousse lead the dessert cabinet here, with enough cakes and tarts to make choosing needlessly difficult. The banoffee has the strongest following, while the mousse keeps its chocolate deep and avoids the sugar hammer.
The savoury side deserves equal billing. Beef Massaman pie is rich and properly spiced, and the ham-and-cheese croissant and lemon cheese croissant give breakfast more purpose than another plate of eggs. Pizza also lands far above what a bakery counter has any right to produce.
A red telephone booth forms the entrance, because apparently a bakery needed a small piece of London bolted onto Koh Lanta. Inside, bamboo ceiling details, air conditioning and cushioned seating make it a good base for a laptop-free hour with a book. The tables are compact, so this is better for cake, coffee and a quiet catch-up than a sprawling group breakfast.
Coffee is competent, though the cabinet is the point. Pick a seat indoors near the front and spend five minutes studying the cakes before pretending this was a rational decision.
