Rareview Coffee & Restaurant
Description
Khao soi gai arrives with floating chopsticks over a deep, northern-style curry broth, and it is the thing to order in Lanta Old Town. The chef’s Chinese-Thai background shows in the balance: rich coconut, proper spice, crisp noodles, no sugary tourist-curry fog.
Moo hong – caramelised pork – is another strong pick, soft enough to abandon its structural duties at the first nudge of a fork. The oversized fish cakes, massaman curry, steamed fish and pad krapao hold their own, while pineapple fried rice is more serious than its holiday-menu reputation suggests.
The tables facing the water get the point of the place: stilt-house Old Town, mangrove edge, boats and a long view across the bay. Sit outside near sunset with a whole-coconut smoothie or coffee, then let the tide provide the background theatre (far cheaper than a West End ticket, and with better curry).
The approach runs past the kitchen and a storage-heavy interior section before the waterfront opens up. Rareview suits diners who want Thai cooking with care and presentation, not a rushed snack between souvenir shops; the khao soi is better reason enough to make the detour down Old Town’s main street.
