Description

Fish and chips made from that morning’s catch are the thing to eat here: chunky fish, crisp batter, proper chips, and no attempt to impersonate cod. Fresh calamari rings and the squid dishes hold their own, though this kitchen thinks in bar snacks.

The deck reaches over the water behind the old family house, with bay views through bamboo shade and a small upstairs nook for lingering. Enter past the tattoo sign or the red lanterns; from the road, it has all the visual drama of a secret side quest.

Cocktails are taken seriously. The Amaretto Sour, Margarita and Whisky Sour are the reliable calls, with local spirits used well and Singha poured on draft into frosty glasses. Mango shakes also make sense in the afternoon, particularly from the pier seats.

Mayuri’s belongs on an Old Town stop for drinks, a late lunch, or the slow hour before dusk. The place carries family history in the furniture and timber, while the former fish-salting deck now does a far better job holding a cold beer over the bay.
