Fresh Restaurant
Description
Garlic-fried squid, king prawns and tom yum seafood are the sensible choices at this long, sea-facing Old Town restaurant. The seafood has proper Southern Thai punch, especially the fish curries, kaeng lueng and spicy salads. Duck dishes also get more attention here than they do at most waterfront menus.
The back pier is the reason to linger. It runs out over the water with mountain views across the bay, plus swings positioned for the inevitable photo session. A coconut shake or strong coffee shake works well while the tide gets on with being photogenic.
The menu is enormous, spanning Thai classics, seafood, fried rice and Western comfort food. Stay in the Thai and seafood sections; they are the point. Chicken panang, curry prawn cakes, vegetable spring rolls and deep-fried mango with ice cream all land well.
Fresh Restaurant suits a slow lunch or early dinner after walking Old Town’s wooden shophouses. The tables at the end of the pier have the widest water view, and the garlic squid has enough crunch to justify putting down the camera.
