Apsara Restaurant
Description
Whole snapper is the point here, especially the steamed lime and chilli version. The fish arrives properly fresh, lightly handled, and sharp with lime.
The entrance looks like a modest Old Town shopfront with hanging vines. Then the route runs straight through the wooden kitchen to a small waterside dining area, where the sea view appears with the timing of a good punchline. Low tide leaves more mudflat than postcard, but the tables still have the breeze.
Three-flavour fish is the richer option: fried, glossy, sweet-hot and built for anyone who enjoys a bit of culinary theatre. Garlic fried fish with the house chilli sauce is another safe bet, while stir-fried morning glory, cabbage and seafood pad see ew make sensible supporting acts. Soft-shell crab is not the order to travel across the island for.
The hand-drawn menu and colouring books give it a family-run looseness without turning dinner into a kindergarten. Book ahead for an outdoor table; the pork ribs sell out before they have finished being pork ribs.
