Description

Chocolate-banana sorbet, cranberry-blueberry sorbet and coffee ice cream are the serious business at Shanti. The flavours change, the combinations get strange in the right way, and the texture has none of that freezer-burned sadness found in too many tropical dessert cabinets.

The front room is part small boutique, with woven scarves and bits worth browsing. Behind it, low seating and cushions spill onto a little platform above the mangroves and east-coast sea. Settle in with a cappuccino, Masala Chai or a Cuba Libre and watch Old Town get quieter around you.

Food is light, fresh and more substantial than the ice-cream-only crowd expects. The pasta salad arrives generously dressed with parmesan, while the bowls suit a lazy lunch that doesn’t leave you needing a lie-down in a hammock.

Shanti costs more than a roadside coffee stop, because it is not trying to be one. It is a deliberately slow perch for dessert, drinks and sea air, with a cinnamon scoop capable of changing a stubborn mind.
