Tom Kha curry, papaya salad with real chilli bite, and burgers that don’t arrive as a sad little apology to bread – Rasta Baby feeds its beach-bar crowd properly. The tofu burger with grilled peppers, feta and caramelised onion is the sleeper hit, while the homemade mozzarella balls are worth catching before sunset turns every table into a camera tripod.
The setting is the point: sand underfoot, open water ahead, and one of Koh Lanta’s easier swims straight out front. The seabed stays clear enough for low-tide swimming, which gives it an advantage over the rockier stretches nearby. Sunset lands squarely in front of the bar, with reggae, dub, classic rock and old pop drifting from the speakers.
Cocktails lean tropical without becoming fluorescent chemistry experiments. Banana piña coladas, mango margaritas and mango mojitos fit the hour, while cold beer does the less theatrical job perfectly well. Live reggae, ska bands, DJs and fire shows turn up on selected nights, so treat any planned performance as a bonus.
A small bohemian clothing and jewellery shop sits at the front, stocked with travel-worn dresses, sale pieces and bits likely to end up in a suitcase. Settle in for the late-afternoon swim, then claim a sea-facing seat before the sun starts its daily disappearing act.
