Sam Pi Hong
Description
Bamboo Beach fills the whole frame from Sam Pi Hong’s raised terrace, with the bay curving below and the national park road just behind you. Stop here after the beach or on the drive south, particularly when the heat has turned decision-making into a low-grade engineering problem.
Thai dishes are the safe bet and often far better than the sprawling menu suggests. Larb gai arrives sharp and fresh, som tam Thai has proper balance, and the green curry has enough punch to justify a second visit. Fried squid with garlic and pepper is another good call, crisp-edged and properly seasoned.
The menu wanders through pizza, burgers, Russian dishes, grilled meat and a small atlas of other ideas. Ignore the diplomatic summit of international food and stick with Thai cooking, seafood, rice dishes and salads. Stir-fried glass noodles bring a serious amount of seafood and vegetables, though the seasoning runs salty.
Late lunch is the sweet spot, after Bamboo Beach and before the road back becomes a long argument with your scooter seat. The terrace seats facing the bay are the whole point: cold beer, coconut juice or coffee taste better with that view doing most of the decoration.
