SunMa
Description
Panang curry, green curry and crispy chicken basil are the reasons SunMa keeps pulling nearby resort diners back across the road. The flavours land properly Thai – chilli, herbs, coconut and fish sauce doing their jobs without being sanded down for holiday menus.
Pad Thai and pineapple fried rice are strong choices, while tom yum noodles bring the sharper, hotter end of the menu. Morning glory, larb, cucumber salad and mixed vegetables with shrimp cover the lighter side. Ask for spice in clear terms; the kitchen can keep things gentle unless told otherwise.
Dessert deserves room here. Mango sticky rice is rich and sweet, pineapple roti is a dangerously sensible second dessert, and lemon or mango shakes cut through a bowl of curry nicely. Chicken satay and garlic-black-pepper chicken also travel well from snack to full dinner.
SunMa sits on the roadside near Anda Lanta and Klong Jark, with a plain, family-run café setup. It is cheap, fast to reach before the national park or Last Beach, and far more useful than its modest frontage suggests (a building with the charisma of a bus stop, then a very good curry).
