Blue Shaka
Description
Avocado toast on sourdough, scrambled eggs with mushrooms, and iced coffee are the reasons Blue Shaka keeps breakfast interesting on the main-road stretch. The avocado and egg combination is nailed, with proper sourdough doing its job beneath it.
The room looks assembled by someone with a paintbrush, a surf habit, and no interest in beige. Murals, beachy art and relaxed seating give it more character than the standard eggs-and-coffee stop. There are books and a high chair for small children, which is unusually thoughtful for a brunch place.
Coffee ranges from a good cappuccino to a lighter cup, so iced coffee is the safer bet for anyone needing serious caffeine. The kitchen takes its time, particularly for toast, and dishes can arrive separately. Don’t choose Blue Shaka before a ferry, taxi pickup, or any appointment involving a clock.
Breakfast is the strong suit. Leave the burgers alone and stick to the sourdough plates, eggs, mushrooms, bacon and fruit; that is where the kitchen has clearly put its flags in the sand.
