Description

Barracuda with vegetables and rice is the smart dinner here, eaten with sand under the table and the sea doing its usual excellent work nearby. Picasso sits right on the beach, with colourful lights, dinosaur decorations and bossa nova giving the place a faintly surreal holiday-camp charm.

Thai lemon tea and the pineapple-basil shake are worth a detour from the standard Chang-and-coconut routine. Seafood tom yum, Pad Thai, Tom Kha Gai and crispy duck with orange sauce cover the Thai-and-Western split well. The fresh lasagne and steak give longer-stay diners somewhere to wander after several curries.

Sunset drinks belong in the chairs on the sand, especially with a mojito and spicy cashews. The view has no interest in subtlety, which is fortunate because neither do the dinosaurs.

Breakfast runs continental, with tea, fruit and scrambled eggs alongside the beach menu. Picasso suits a long lunch, an uncomplicated family dinner, or a sunset stop that turns into another round because the horizon has started showing off.
