Krua Dan Tai
Description
Southern pork curry here arrives fragrant, fiery and built for rice, not for diplomatic negotiations with chilli. Krua Dan Tai cooks Southern Thai food with the sour, salty, herbal punch that gets flattened elsewhere on the island.
The Thai-language menu reaches further into local cooking, with kheng som, petai dishes and properly forceful curries. Crispy pork with morning glory is a safer landing strip, while the red curry keeps its flavour even at a lower heat level. Pad Thai also has the wok-charred, savoury edge that too many versions lose somewhere between pan and plate.
Heat is not adjustable across the full menu. Choose a mild dish if chilli is not your sport; ordering kheng som or wild boar on bravado alone is a quick lesson in personal limits.
The dining room sits on the main road near Saladan and fills early at dinner. Food is cooked dish by dish, so a packed room means a wait, but the kitchen’s stir-fries and curries arrive fresh.
