The Sick Buffalo
Description
Smoked wings are the reason to pull over at The Sick Buffalo, tucked into the curve between Long Beach and Klong Dao. The sauce has a herby, yoghurt-like tang with more bite than the usual sweet-chilli autopilot.
Inside is properly air-conditioned, which changes the arithmetic of watching an afternoon match in Lanta. Live football and other big sports fill the screens, while retro games and billiards cover the gaps between kick-offs. Cold beer, craft options and hot dogs keep the pub brief admirably straightforward.
There is an outdoor smoking area at the front, while the cool room inside stays mosquito-free. The place has the compact feel of a new neighbourhood bar that has discovered sport, wings and air-con are a perfectly respectable civilisation.
Billy Buffalo is the name to ask for behind the bar. The best seats are inside near the screens, where the air-con earns more applause than several footballers.
