Two Scoops Gelato
Description
Rum and raisin, mascarpone and fig, and peanut butter with strawberry jam give Two Scoops more ambition than the standard beachside freezer full of fluorescent lollies. The gelato is made with proper richness, so chocolate, stracciatella and coconut land as flavours.
The cabinet changes daily, with around nine flavours at a time. Cinnamon caramel, gingernut and strawberry cheesecake are the sort of decisions that turn a quick cone into a small personal crisis. Samples help, which is fortunate because choosing between salted caramel and mascarpone fig should not require a spreadsheet.
It sits right on the beachfront, ideal after a swim or during the long, hot pause between lunch and sunset. One scoop costs more than the cheap ice cream nearby, but the portions are generous and the texture has the dense, creamy finish that cheap ice cream spends its life impersonating.
Foodies should make a detour for the rotating flavours, especially the ones that sound slightly odd on paper. Rum and raisin is the sleeper hit – deep, creamy and far too good for something bought in flip-flops.
