Description

Panang curry here lands rich, salty-sweet and properly peanutty, with enough depth to make the beach-road versions feel like they forgot the curry part. Tom yum is another strong call, packed with edible galangal and lemongrass that earns its place in the bowl.

Garlic chicken gets ordered twice for a reason. Chicken with basil, fried rice and noodles keep the Thai side of the compact menu busy, while the homemade burger is the unexpected heavy hitter – thick, satisfying and far better than a holiday emergency burger has any right to be.

The room is small and simple, with basic tables and no beach frontage. That is part of the charm: food first, scenery supplied by whatever is happening on the road outside (Koh Lanta’s least theatrical dinner setting, thankfully).

Portions are generous and the prices stay low, so it is easy to eat well without turning dinner into a financial event. Garlic Lanta rewards hungry diners who care about a serious curry, punchy soup and a burger that can hold its own beside them.
