Marlaelay Restaurant
Description
Shrimp donuts, Massaman curry and fried banana are the sensible reasons to stop at Marlaelay. The Thai side of the menu has the most conviction, with fragrant curries, properly cooked rice, Pad Thai and hot-pan chicken carrying the meal.
Tables face the sea, with decorative lights after dark and a proper sunset view over the water. It sits beside Nice Beach Resort, and drinks come through Big Bang Bar next door – cocktails, cold beer, coffee, fresh juice and non-alcoholic wine all covered.
The menu sprawls across Thai, Indian, Western, Mexican and steakhouse territory, which is useful for a group with wildly incompatible dinner plans. Keep the order Thai, add shrimp donuts, and leave pizza and masala chicken to venues that have made fewer promises to the laminated menu printer.
Wednesday nights bring chilled live guitar and singing by the water. The roof leaks during heavy rain, so pick a sheltered table if the sky has started assembling its equipment.
