San Sunset Bar
Description
Beanbags on Long Beach, a cold beer, and the sun dropping straight into the Andaman – San Sunset Bar has nailed the bit everyone came to Koh Lanta for. Arrive before the light goes gold; the beachfront seats disappear fast, because gravity remains unpopular with holiday plans.
Som Tum is the food order with the strongest claim to fame here: fresh, sharp and far more purposeful than a decorative pile of shredded papaya. The hot pan is another solid pick, and the kitchen can turn Thai dishes vegan with tofu and no egg. Thai tea, fresh coconuts and wine by the glass keep the daytime crowd settled long after lunch has finished pretending to be important.
Fire shows bring a proper evening crowd on selected nights, with enough flame-twirling to satisfy anyone who enjoys entertainment conducted alarmingly close to fuel. For food, stick to Thai dishes and avoid treating the cocktails as a reason to plan your night around the menu.
San Sunset Bar is best used as a Long Beach sunset base: settle in early, eat something spicy, then let the waves provide the soundtrack. The massage place next door adds soft music during the quieter early hours, while the sea gets on with being extremely photogenic.
