Jaijai Restaurant
Description
Massaman curry is the dish to cross the road for at Jaijai. It is rich, warmly spiced and built for spooning over rice until the plate becomes a very persuasive argument for staying put.
Chicken cashew nuts and pad Thai are the reliable repeat orders, with proper portions at local-wallet prices. Fried kale with crispy chicken deserves more attention than it gets, while the papaya salad and green curry bring enough chilli and freshness to stop the menu becoming a beige carb festival.
Mango shakes are thick, sweet and heavy on actual mango. Spring rolls, fried rice, shrimp tempura and fried calamari cover the quick snack side of things after the beach, though the calamari portion is small.
The room is a compact, no-frills family restaurant just off the main road, close enough to the beach for sandy feet and an appetite. Jaijai is halal and alcohol-free. Vegetarian diners can have tofu pad see ew made without egg, fish sauce or oyster sauce, with plenty of vegetables.
