Barracuda arrives properly cooked, with garlic-pepper or creamy sauce doing exactly what Koh Lanta fish dinners need done. Add rice or chips and salad, then settle in with a cocktail from the bar beside the dining area.
The pineapple fried rice with chicken is the repeat-order dish, while stir-fried chicken with garlic comes saucy and full-flavoured. Thai cooking leads the menu, with fresh fish, basil sauces, fried rice and coconut-based dishes carrying far more conviction than the pizza ever will. The tortilla-base pizza is an evolutionary dead end.
Anny now trades inside Metallic Hostel, about 100 metres north of the former location. It is a small, casual room for a cheap dinner, takeaway, or an unhurried drink after the beach.
Breakfast has its own menu with coffee and juice alongside the morning plates. Ask for your preferred spice level, and leave room for the Thai desserts; the young coconut with fried coconut, vegetables, pineapple and shrimp is the sort of dish that makes a standard plate look underprepared.
