Malina's Kitchen
Description
Massaman curry, papaya salad and enormous crispy spring rolls are the sensible reasons Malina’s Kitchen fills up after dark. The shrimp Massaman has the deep, nutty richness people keep chasing around the island, while the papaya salad arrives fresh, sharp and properly alive.
Thai cooking is the point, though the menu also covers burgers, chicken steak and other Western comfort food for anyone temporarily defeated by chillies. Pad Thai comes loaded with chicken, egg and vegetables, and the prawn tempura is a strong opening act. Spice level is set dish by dish, so one table can contain both sensible adults and somebody testing their insurance policy.
Daniel and Malina run a relaxed, cosy dining room where dietary requests get handled properly. Vegan dishes can be made without egg or fish sauce, and ingredients can be left out without turning dinner into an archaeological dig through the plate.
Dinner gets busy and the kitchen takes its time once the room is full. Book ahead for the evening, or settle in for a long meal; lunch is calmer, but the Massaman remains the order either way.
