Patty's Secret Garden
Description
The Black Bomber Cheeseburger, loaded with imported Welsh cheddar and served with sweet-potato fries, is the rare island burger worth planning around. The veggie burger holds its own too, while the regular beef burger is less dependable.
Thai cooking has plenty of range: Penang curry, massaman, pad see ew, pad Thai, shrimp in tamarind sauce and vegetarian noodle soup all have proper flavour behind them. Ask for mild heat if chilli is not your hobby. Portions lean generous, especially the curries.
Thick greenery cuts the road noise, and the garden has private little dining huts, cushions, warm lighting and enough cats to keep the place from taking itself too seriously. Cocktails and the house red make it a solid dinner stop near Long Beach, particularly for a date that needs more than plastic chairs and a laminated sunset.
Families get a proper advantage here: the kids’ corner and play area sit within sight of the tables, so dinner can continue past the first five minutes. The sharing pot dessert is the right excuse to linger in the garden.
