Marina Restaurant
Description
Crispy pork pad kra pao, whole fish in curry, and a mojito with enough mint to justify the glass – Marina Restaurant does beach dinner properly. The Thai cooking has proper punch without treating every plate as a chilli endurance test, and extra heat is available.
The best seats sit in the sand at Long Beach’s quieter end, under bamboo cabanas or sprawled across large bamboo furniture. Sunset lands straight over the rocks and water, while the coffee shake and cold cocktails keep the table occupied long after the light has gone. Liverpool matches also turn up here, because football finds a way.
Pad Thai, panaeng curry, green curry, tom kha gai, green mango salad and papaya salad with cashews all have a place on the broad menu. Vegetarians and vegans get more than the standard apologetic tofu corner; tofu panaeng curry is especially solid, and gluten-free dishes can be made without soy sauce.
The food is generous, inexpensive, and far more memorable than the bamboo-and-sand setting first suggests. Bathrooms are basic, so save the full spa expectations for somewhere with walls and a plumbing budget.
