Lanta Lily Restaurant
Description
Bacon fried rice, tuna baguettes and proper fresh rolls make Lanta Lily far more useful than the average poolside bar. The Thai side holds up too: pad krapao, massaman curry and crisp spring rolls cover dinner without sending anyone on a heroic menu expedition.
The pool is the draw on hot afternoons. Buy food or drinks, take a dip, refill your water bottle and settle under the palms with a book, a beer or one of the shakes. There are toys and board games around, plus enough space for kids to burn off the energy apparently stored in their knees.
Blue Lanta cocktails are the house pick, and the bar puts on quiz nights, taco nights and other social evenings. Quiz Night attracts a proper mixed table of regulars and holiday strays, with questions difficult enough to expose the limits of your geography GCSE.
Breakfast is unusually solid for this stretch of island: eggs, fruit, yoghurt, cereal, coffee, juices and ginger shots, with bread baked fresh. Lanta Lily suits a long, lazy pool day far better than a quick roadside meal; the pirate parrot decor has committed to the bit.
